“Mad-Eye” Moody is honored as one of the most respected Auror of the wizarding world. He fought in the first and second wizarding wars and captured several wizard criminals. During the wizarding wars, Mad-Eye Moody lost his left eye, lower right leg, part of his nose and his face became horribly scarred. Because of the wars he became paranoid and very cautious. He refused to consume anything that he had not physically prepared himself. Mad Eye Moody has a prosthetic leg and walks with a limp and uses a walking staff.
In the movie Harry Potter and the Goblet of fire, Alastor came out of retirement to head up the Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher at Hogwarts. Before the Hogwart’s school year starts, Moody is assaulted by Barty Crouch Jr. who immobilizes him with the Imperius Curse and takes Polyjuice Potion to assume his form. Crouch Jr. keeps the real Mad Eye Moody alive so he can question him and learn his ways. He then took the place of Moody at Hogwarts teaching defense against the dark arts. The fake Mad Eye Moody becomes known for teaching higher level topics to the fourth-year class and being a demanding teacher.
