Hedwig was Harry Potter’s pet the friendly white owl given to him on his eleventh birthday from Hagrid. Hedwig the owl absolutely loved Harry and was his companion throughout the books. Hedwig was Harry’s personal courier as she carried mail and messages back and forth for Harry.

About Hedwig

Hedwig the owl was Harry Potter’s pet. Rubeus Hagrid gave Hedwig to Harry on his 11th birthday.. Hedwig was Harry’s friend and companion. According to Harry’s school booklist, Harry was allowed to bring a pet to school as long as it was a cat, toad or owl. Hagrid who was leading him thru Diagon Alley, decided to stop and buy Harry an animal as a birthday gift. Harry told Hagrid that he didn’t want a toad because they were too old fashioned and he would be laughed at. He also didn’t want a cat because he didn’t like them. So Hagrid took Harry to the Owl Emporium and bought him Hedwig, a white snowy owl.

Harry named his owl “Hedwig” after a name he found in his “History of Magic” schoolbook. The schoolbook explained that there was once a Saint Hedwig, who was the Duchess of Silesia and since her death the “Sisters of St. Hedwig” foundation was started with the goal of educating orphaned children like Harry.

Hedwig loved Harry and was affectionate by nibbling his fingers or ear and did whatever Harry asked her to do. In one funny scene Harry asked Hedwig to peck Hermione and Ron until they answered back and she did. Hedwig was very smart and majestic. She hunted rats, mice and frogs. Hedwig often carried mail back and forth for Harry. She was a courier delivering messages to and from Harry.

If you are just, loyal, and true..than a Hufflepuff costume is the costume for you!

Hufflepuff is one of the four schoolhouses in the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The founder of the house was Helga Hufflepuff. The Housemistress of Hufflepuff is Professor Pomona Sprout. Their Coat of Arms is a black badger and yellow colors and their resident ghost is the Fat Friar. The Hufflepuff house values hard work, fair play, friendship and patience.

All students assigned to the House of Hufflepuff wear the Hufflepuff tie and scarf. The Hufflepuff crest symbol is a badger and colors are black and yellow. This tie and scarf are perfect for an authentic Hufflepuff costume.

To create a Hufflepuff Costume you can pair the tie and scarf with a black robe, black pants and shoes. Add the Hogwart’s first-year student hat and you are good to go!

About Hufflepuff
Students that belong to the House of Hufflepuff are generally friendly, loyal, non-judging and hard-working. Hufflepuffs tend to be a more modest group and are not as competitive as the other houses, except in the game of Quidditch. Minerva McGonagall states that all four houses have created outstanding wizards and witches, but due to the Hufflepuff policy of approving any student regardless of performance in the House Cup it seems as though it is the house for students with less defined attributes. As a result of the broad acceptance of students, the Hufflepuff house has been labeled as the house of the underperformers (“a lot o’ duffers”).

However, this stereotype is not always the norm. There have been some exceptional students who belonged to the Hufflepuff house. For example, Cedric Diggory honored the Hufflepuff house as its Quidditch captain and later as Hogwart’s victor in the Tri-Wizard Tournament in 1994.

Combat the wizards of the dark arts with this Mad Eye Moody Costume!

Alastor “Mad-Eye” Moody is revered as a renowned Auror, and an important member of the Order of the Phoenix during the first two Wizarding wars. “Mad-Eye” Moody lost his eye, leg and part of his nose while fighting in the wars. “Mad-Eye” Moody is honored as one of the most respected Auror of the wizarding world. He fought in the first and second wizarding wars and captured several wizard criminals. During the wizarding wars, Mad-Eye Moody lost his left eye, lower right leg, part of his nose and his face became horribly scarred. Because of the wars he became paranoid and very cautious. He refused to consume anything that he had not physically prepared himself. Mad Eye Moody has a prosthetic leg and walks with a limp and uses a walking staff.

In the movie Harry Potter and the Goblet of fire, Alastor came out of retirement to head up the Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher at Hogwarts. Before the Hogwart’s school year starts, Moody is assaulted by Barty Crouch Jr. who immobilizes him with the Imperius Curse and takes Polyjuice Potion to assume his form. Crouch Jr. keeps the real Mad Eye Moody alive so he can question him and learn his ways. He then took the place of Moody at Hogwarts teaching defense against the dark arts. The fake Mad Eye Moody becomes known for teaching higher level topics to the fourth-year class and being a demanding teacher.

Dress in a Madame Hooch costume – Harry Potter’s Broomstick flying instructor!

Madame Hooch is a great Harry Potter character. She is full of fun and energy and teaches broomstick flying to first year students at Hogwarts. A Madame Hooch costume is easy to duplicate. About Madame Hooch

Madame Hooch not only teaches first year students how to ride a broomstick, she also is a Quidditch instructor and referee. She has short, spiky grey hair and hawk-like yellow eyes. Her character was portrayed by actress Zoë Wanamaker in the film Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. Madame Hooch is almost 100 years old during her time at Hogwarts.

The Harry Potter Sorting Hat was used at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, the Boarding school of magic for young witches and wizards living in the United Kingdom and Ireland. The sorting hat magically decides which of the four schoolhouses each student will be assigned. About the Harry Potter Sorting Hat

The Sorting Hat is an ancient hat used at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, which magically decides which of the four schoolhouses each student will be assigned. The four schoolhouses are Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw or Slytherin.

Before the start of the new year and sorting the new students, the sorting hat sings an introductory song. These introductory songs sometimes warn of danger to come but always include a short description of each house.

During the opening formal dinner at the start of the school year, the sorting hat is placed on every 1st year student’s head. The hat will then announce its choice for schoolhouse assignment aloud and the student then joins the chosen house. This Dark Wizard is called “The Dark Lord” and known as “He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named”, or Voldemort. What you will need for a great Voldemort Costume:

A Dark Robe:

Whether you go as the younger and more handsome Tom Riddle or Voldemort in his full wizard form, you will need a dark robe. These are great Voldemort costumes for both adults and children because they include a long black robe with bell sleeves and a Lord Voldemort mask. You can add black shoes to this costume and have a complete look easily. If you have an old graduation robe that could work and long black t-shirts can be used for small children.

Voldemort’s Long Fingers

To copy the long fingers you can use extra-large white gloves and stuff then ends with cotton balls. They also make really cool and creepy latex Voldemort hands that look snakelike and scary looking.

A Hairless Head

Lord Voldemort’s head is skull-like and has no hair. You can buy a head cap that will make you look bald. You could also try white pantyhose. For a fiercer look you can go with a full Voldemort latex mask like the one below. All you need is a black robe, black shoes and this full latex mask. A tip if you get the full latex mask is to wear a ski mask under it for more comfort.

White Face Makeup

Lord Voldemort’s face is skull-like and almost white. He has reddish eyes. To get this look you can apply white face makeup all over your face, neck and lips and line your eyes with red makeup. Another option is to get a skull makeup kit that looks more realistic or go with a latex mask.
